Zoo Story Time

Welcome Song: Hi Hello and How Are You (to the tune of London Bridges Falling Down)
Hi, hello and how are you?
How are you? How are you?
Hi, hello and how are you?
How are you today?

Song: Clap Clap Clap Your Hands (to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat)
Clap, clap, clap your hands
Clap them now with me
Clap your hands let me see
Clap them now with me

Tap, tap, tap your knees // Shake, shake, shake your feet

Book: ‘Twas the Day Before Zoo Day by Catherine Ipcizade; illustrated by Ben Hodson

Animals and zoo keepers alike prepare for an impending school visit.

Song: You Can Hear (to the tune of She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain)
You can hear the lions roaring at the zoo, ROAR, ROAR!
You can hear the lions roaring at the zoo, ROAR ROAR!
You can hear the lions roaring, you can hear the lions roaring,
You can hear the lions roaring at the zoo, ROAR ROAR!

Snakes hissing // Bears growling // Wolves howling // Frogs Croaking

Song: Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes
Sung three times, getting faster each time.

Action Rhyme: Kangaroo
Jump, jump, jump goes the kangaroo. (jump)
I thought only one — (hold up one finger)
But now I see two! (hold up two fingers)
Mommy and her baby with his head popping out (wiggle thumb)
He holds on tight (hug self)
As they jump all about! (jump around)

Book: Put Me in the Zoo by Robert Lopshire

I absolutely loved this book as a child so it was a real joy revisiting it here.

Action Book: From Head to Toe by Eric Carle

I read this book and had the kids act out the movements. They were especially enthusiastic about the donkey kicks!

Egg Shakers: Shake It by Sally’s Music Circle

Book: Penguins by Liz Pichon

penguins
A group of penguins finds a camera left behind by a zoo guest. I especially love the end when a string of photographs falls out of the book to show the penguin selfies!

Goodbye Song: If You’re Happy and You Know It
If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands
If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands
If you’re happy and you know it then your face will surely show it
If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands

Stomp Your Feet // Shout Hooray // Do All Three

I also made Put Me in the Zoo coloring sheets for the kids to take home.
