Jungle Story Time

Welcome Song: Hands Go Up and Hands Go Down
(to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star)
Hands go up and hands go down
I can turn around and round
I can hop upon two shoes
I can listen so can you
I can sit, I’ll show you how
Story time is starting now

Song: Zoom Zoom Zoom, We’re Going to the Moon
Zoom zoom zoom, we’re going to the moon
Zoom zoom zoom, we’re going to the moon
If you want to take a trip, climb aboard my rocket ship
Zoom zoom zoom, we’re going to the moon
In 5-4-3-2-1
BLASTOFF!

Early Literacy Tip: Talk to your child about the stories we read at story time when you get home. By remembering what they heard and reviewing it, it helps reinforce new vocabulary words because they have the opportunity to use those words again.

Book: Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreade and Guy Parker-Rees

I love this book. And the message is always wonderful (everyone can dance if they have the right music). I just bought a board book copy for our baby boy for Christmas!

Flannel: Down in the Jungle
Down in the jungle where nobody goes,
There’s a big, fat elephant washing his toes.
With a rub-a-dub here, and a rub-a-dub there,
That’s the way he washes his toes!

Down in the jungle when nobody’s there,
There’s a great big lion washing his hair.
With a rub-a-dub here, and a rub-a-dub there,
That’s the way he washes his hair!

Down in the jungle if you look in the trees,
There’s a cheeky monkey washing her knees.
With a rub-a-dub here, and a rub-a-dub there,
That’s the way she washes her knees!

Down in the jungle if you care to check,
There’s a very long snake washing his neck.
With a rub-a-dub here, and a rub-a-dub there,
That’s the way he washes his neck!

Down at the river if you look underneath,
There’s a great big tiger brushing her teeth.
With a rub-a-dub here, and a rub-a-dub there,
That’s the way she brushes her teeth!

Wiggle Rhyme: Watch Out for the Bugs (to the tune of Jingle Bells)
Clap your hands, stomp your feet
Wiggle all around
Throw your hands up in the air and now let’s touch the ground
Touch your head, touch your hips, give yourself a hug
Now sit down upon the floor
But watch out for the bugs!! (stamp out the bugs)

Book: It’s a Tiger! by David LaRochelle; illustrated by Jeremy Tankard

I love interactive books like this where the kids help you track the tiger on each page.

Song: Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed
Five little monkeys jumping on the bed,
One fell off and bumped his head.
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said:
No more monkeys jumping on the bed!
Four // Three // Two // One

Song: Back in the Jungle
Back in the jungle many years ago,
I had a friend his name was Joe and he had a lot of pets.
He had creepy ones, crawly ones, big and small.
But my favorite pet of all was a lion that went like this (*roar*)
(Crocodile that went like this [*snap snap snap*])
(Frog that went like this [*ribbit, ribbit, ribbit*])
(Monkey that went like this [*ooo ooo aah aah*])

Egg Shakers: Shake It by Sally’s Music Circle

Action Rhyme: Monkey See, Monkey Do
Monkey see, monkey do,
Little monkey at the zoo.
Monkey, monkey in the tree,
Can you swing your arms like me?

Scratch an itch // Jump around

Goodbye Song: Clap, Clap, Clap Your Hands
Clap, clap, clap your hands, clap your hands together
Clap, clap, clap your hands, clap your hands together

Tap, tap, tap your feet // Wave, wave, wave goodbye
