Building Story Time

Gardens & Recycling Story Time (Building)

Today we’re building a better world by recycling and planting and enjoying beautiful gardens!

Welcome Song: Clap and Sing Hello (to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell)
We clap and sing hello,
We clap and sing hello,
With our friends at story time,
We clap and sing hello!
We wave and sing hello // We stomp and sing hello

Flannel: Five Little Ladybugs
Five little ladybugs on our front door,
One flew to Evan (or another kid’s name) and that left four.
Four little ladybugs oh so wee,
One flew to Kathryn and that left three.
Three little ladybugs saying “howdy-do,”
One flew to Avery and now there are two.
Two little ladybugs snoozing in the sun,
One flew to Kaylan and now there is one.
One little ladybug alone on the door,
It flew to mama and now there are no more.

Song/Scarves: Popcorn Kernels (to the tune of Frere Jacques; sing each line twice)
Popcorn kernels, (wave scarves overhead)
In the pot. (make scarves ‘disappear’ by bunching them in their fists)
Shake them, shake them, shake them, (shake)
’til they POP! (throw scarves into the air)

Song/Scarves: One Bright Scarf (to the tune of 10 Little Indians)

Wiggle it high, (wiggle above head)
Wiggle it low, (wiggle by knees)
Shake it fast, (shake fast)
Shake it slow, (shake slow)
Put it behind your back. (put scarf behind your back)
Where did it go? (bring out empty hands; shrug)

My crowd skewed a little younger this time so this was a last minute replacement. I love Todd Parr. Colorful drawings with a great message.

Baby shark

Our activity today was making rain sticks with recycled materials. I got the idea here and here. The rice was messy without a funnel but that’s what vacuums are for, right?
