Book: Ouch! by Regnhild Scamell; illustrated by Michael Terry
A little hedgehog collects fruit and leaves and nuts on her quills but now she won’t fit into her winter nest. What will she do??
Flannel: Hickory Dickory Dock
Instead of just a mouse going up and down the clock I used a variety of fall animals!
Hickory dickory dock,
The mouse went up the clock.
The clock struck one, the mouse ran down.
Hickory dickory dock!
A bunny ran up the clock // The clock struck two
An owl flew up the clock // The clock struck three
A fox ran up the clock // The clock struck four
A bear went up the clock // The clock struck five
The loved the bear, especially when I made the clock crash underneath him at the end. 😀

Book: The Busy Little Squirrel by Nancy Tafuri
A little squirrel can’t play run and play with his friends, he’s too busy getting ready for winter!
I did a little research because I wasn’t entirely sure squirrels hibernated and it turns out, they don’t! I followed this link and found out that while they don’t hibernate like bears, they really don’t like bitter cold weather so they stay in their little dens or dreys with their squirrel friends and sleep, sleep, sleep! That’s why they store nuts away for winter. One of the moms also told the group that squirrels gather and forage for nuts and seeds and then forget where they stash them! But that’s why we have so many beautiful trees.
Nature.
