Llama Story Time (2018)

Llama’s are one of my favorite animals (the long necks, the buck teeth, the two L’s!) so I was thrilled to be able to introduce this new story time theme!

Welcome Song: Clap and Sing Hello (to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell)
We clap and sing hello,
We clap and sing hello,
With our friends at story time,
We clap and sing hello!

We tap and sing hello (tap knees) //
We stretch and sing hello (stretch arms up) //
We wave and sing hello (wave)

Song: I’m Bringing Home a Baby Bumblebee
I’m bringing home a baby bumblebee,
Won’t my mommy be so proud of me?
I’m bringing home a baby bumblebee,
BUZZ, BUZZ, BUZZ, BUZZ, BUZZ!

I’m bringing home a baby dinosaur,
Won’t my mommy hide behind the door? (hide behind hands)
I’m bringing home a baby dinosaur,
CLOMP, CLOMP, CLOMP, CLOMP, CLOMP! (hit knees)

I’m bringing home a baby crocodile,
Won’t my mommy wear a great big smile? (point to face)
I’m bringing home a baby crocodile,
SNAP, SNAP, SNAP, SNAP, SNAP! (snap arms)

I’m bringing home a baby grizzly bear,
Won’t my mommy pull out all her hair? (pretend to pull out hair)
I’m bringing home a baby grizzly bear,
GROWL, GROWL, GROWL, GROWL, GROWL! (hold up paws)

Book: Is Your Mama a Llama? by Deborah Guarino; illustrated by Steven Kellogg

Rhyming book about a little llama who asks his animal friends if their mama is a llama. I love this book, it was one of my favorites from childhood. I think it might be better for an older crowd … or at least one without the distraction of a child trying to pull the book out of my hands the whole time. *sigh*

Action Rhyme: Tired Little Llamas
Said this little llama, “I’m as tired as can be,”
Said this little llama, “My eyes can hardly see.”
Said this little llama, “I’d like to go to bed,”
Said this little llama, “I want to rest my head.”
Said this little llama, “Come climb the stairs with me.”
1-2-3-4-5 they tiptoed, (count on fingers)
Just as still as still could be. (climb fingers up arm)

Song/Puppet: Five Little Monkeys
Five little monkeys swinging from the tree,
Teasing Mr. Alligator, “You can’t catch me!”
Along comes Mr. Alligator, quiet as can be and …
SNAPS that monkey right out of that tree!

Four // Three // Two // One

But those monkeys are clever you see,
And they all found their way back to that tree!

Book: Llama Llama Mad at Mama by Anna Dewdney

Rhyming book about a little llama who doesn’t want to be shopping with mama. I thought this book was perfect for holiday time when stores and long lines are part of every child’s life.

Song: Did You Ever See a Llama? (to the tune of Did You Ever See a Lassie?)
Did you ever see a llama, (shrug shoulders, rock back and forth)
A llama, a llama,
Did you ever see a llama go this way and that? (point left and right)
Go this way and that way, (point left and right)
And that way and this way, (point right and left)
Did you ever see a llama go this way and that? (shrug shoulders)

Baby shark do do do do do do
Baby shark

Mama Shark (shark mouth with hands connected at the wrists)
Daddy Shark (shark mouth with whole arms)
Grandma Shark (shark mouth like mama shark but with fists)
Grandpa Shark (shark mouth like daddy shark but with fists)
Shark attack (snap arms overhead)

Closing Song: It’s Time to Say Goodbye to All Our Friends (to the tune of She’ll Be Comin’ Round the Mountain When She Comes)
It’s time to say goodbye to all our friends, “Goodbye!” (tap knees)
It’s time to say goodbye to all our friends, “Goodbye!”
It’s time to say goodbye,
Wave your hands and wink your eye, (wave, wink)
Now it’s time to say goodbye to all our friends, “Goodbye!”
