Dinosaur Story Time (2019)

Welcome Song: Clap and Sing Hello (to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell)
We clap and sing hello,
We clap and sing hello,
With our friends at story time,
We clap and sing hello!

We tap and sing hello (tap knees) //
We stretch and sing hello (stretch arms up) //
We wave and sing hello (wave)

Song: Watch Out for the Bugs (to the tune of Jingle Bells)
Clap your hands, stomp your feet,
Wiggle all around.
Throw your hands up in the air and now let’s touch the ground.
Touch your head, touch your hips,
Give yourself a hug.
Now sit down upon the floor …
But watch out for the bugs! (stamp them out and scream)

BookThe Really, Really, Really Big Dinosaur by Richard Byrne

A really big dinosaur brags to Jackson that he can do everything better than Jackson’s really, really, really big friend. A great book about sharing and being humble.

Flannel/Song: Five Enormous Dinosaurs
Five enormous dinosaurs letting out a roar, (roar)
One stomped away and now there are four.
Four enormous dinosaurs knocking down a tree,
One stomped away and now there are three.
Three enormous dinosaurs eating veggie stew,
One stomped away and now there are two.
Two enormous dinosaurs sitting under the sun,
One stomped away and now there is one.
One enormous dinosaur wasn’t having any fun,
He stomped away and now there are none.

I tried to get the kids to stomp with me every time one dinosaur stomped away but it had varying success …

BookDinosaur Parade by Shari Halpern

Rhyming book about the different features dinosaurs have. I usually get kids who are about age 3 and under for my story time so I chose very simple books. Of course, the private schools had a day off today that I wasn’t aware of so I had some older kids who would have been able to sit through some longer books. Oh well!
