Toddler Drive-In

This was my first toddler drive-in and it was so much fun. And really, a super easy and cheap program!

I created a slide in Canva so caregivers would know the supplies needed to create their child’s car:

We did have registration for this program to ensure we would have enough materials for each kid. Gathering supplies was easy but took a little time. The boxes came from the libraries book deliveries. They took a month or so to gather. (We ended up with about 35 and I did have some leftover.) We had a volunteer cut out yellow circles for headlights. I used the paper cutter to cut card stock into rectangles for license plates. I bought small paper plates at the grocery store to use as wheels and we had a volunteer cut the centers out of large paper plates to use as steering wheels.

I also set out markers, crayons, stickers, and scrap paper. In hindsight I should have brought in kid scissors as well but when I offered to go grab some the caregivers said they were doing fine without them.

The kids took about 20 minutes to make their cars and then I played a book off of Tumblebooks:

I initially played Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems on BookFLIX but about two minutes in it started buffering and wouldn’t play. I had been going back and forth between Knuffle Bunny and Mr. Magee anyway so I went for it. I also brought in a copy of Chris Van Dusen’s If I Built a Car. That was the back up to my back up plan in case the wifi quit on me or the computer died or something awful happened. I definitely recommend having a back up plan (or two!)!!
