Farm Story Time (2019)

Welcome Song: Clap and Sing Hello (to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell)
We clap and sing hello,
We clap and sing hello,
With our friends at story time,
We clap and sing hello!

We tap and sing hello (tap knees) //
We stretch and sing hello (stretch arms up) //
We wave and sing hello (wave)

Song: Bend and Stretch
Bend and stretch,
Reach for the stars,
There goes Jupiter,
There goes Mars!
Bend and stretch,
Reach for the sky,
Stand on tip-e-toes,
Oh so high!

I chose this rhyme for this season of story times because of our “A Universe of Stories” summer reading theme!

Action Rhyme: Story Time Stretch
Two little hands go clap, clap, clap,
Two little feet go tap, tap, tap,
Two little fists go thump, thump, thump,
Two little legs go jump, jump, jump,
One little body turns around,
And everyone sits quietly down.

I got this rhyme from the children’s librarian where I did my practicum for grad school.

Book: Cock-a-Doodle Quack! Quack! by Ivor Baddiel and Sophie Jubb; illustrated by Ailie Busby

cock a doodle quack quack

Baby Rooster doesn’t know what to say to make everyone wake up. So he asks the other farm animals for help.

Flannel: Open Up the Barn Door
Open up the barn door, the spring goes “Boink,”
There’s a pig in the barn saying, “Oink, oink, oink.”
Open up the barn door before the clock strikes two,
There’s a cow in the barn saying, “Moo, moo, moo.”
Open up the barn door, it’s a sunny day,
There’s a horse in the barn saying, “Neigh, neigh, neigh.”
Open up the barn door, singing, “Tra-la-la,”
There’s a sheep in the barn saying, “Baa, baa, baa.”
Open up the barn door while the sky is blue,
There’s a rooster in the barn saying, “Cock-a-doodle-do!”
Open up the barn door and don’t get off the track,
There’s a duck in the barn, saying, “Quack, quack, quack.”

Goat is tired of herbs and grass. When she tries some new “delicacies” at the farm, she discovers that expanding her palette has consequences.

Song: Roly Poly
Roly poly, roly poly,
Up and down, up and down,
Roly, roly, poly, roly, roly, poly,
Up and down, up and down.

In and out // Fast and slow // Loud and soft

Closing Song: Goodbye Song (to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell)
My fingers wave goodbye,
My fingers wave goodbye,
When it’s time for me to go,
My fingers wave goodbye!

My fingers blow a kiss,
My fingers blow a kiss,
When it’s time for me to go,
My fingers blow a kiss!

I got this song from the children’s librarian where I did my grad school practicum.
