Zoo Story Time (2019)

Welcome Song: Clap and Sing Hello (to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell)
We clap and sing hello,
We clap and sing hello,
With our friends at story time,
We clap and sing hello!

We tap and sing hello (tap knees) //
We stretch and sing hello (stretch arms up) //
We wave and sing hello (wave)

Sounds so good, sounds so fine,
Let me hear it one more time!
Clap, clap, clap-clap, clap,
Clap, clap, clap-clap, clap!

Song/Flannel: The Animals at the Zoo (to the tune of The Wheels on the Bus)
The lions at the zoo go roar, roar, roar,

Roar, roar, roar,
Roar, roar, roar.
The lions at the zoo go roar, roar, roar,
All day long!

The snakes at the zoo go hiss, hiss, hiss // The monkeys at the zoo go eee, eee, eee // The birds at the zoo go tweet, tweet, tweet

Action Rhyme/Puppet: Five Little Monkeys Swinging in the Tree

Book: Through with the Zoo by Jacob Grant

through with the zoo.jpg

A little goat in the petting zoo just wants to be left alone for once. But when he finally finds a quiet place it’s a little too … quiet.

The kids were SUPER wiggly today so I skipped a couple of rhymes I had planned and went straight to egg shakers!

Egg Shakers: Shake It by Sally’s Music Circle

Egg Shakers: Freeze Dance by Kids Dance Party

We also did Freeze Dance so they could jump around some more. 🙂 So much fun.

Book: ‘Twas the Day Before Zoo Day by Catherine Ipcizade; illustrated by Ben Hodson

twas-the-day-before-zoo-day

Rhyming book about zookeepers and their animals getting ready for a big school visit the next day. In hindsight, I should have read this second and Through with the Zoo last since it’s shorter. Alas.

Song: Skinnamarink

Closing Song: Goodbye Song (to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell)
My fingers wave goodbye, My fingers wave goodbye,
When it’s time for me to go,  My fingers wave goodbye!

My fingers blow a kiss, My fingers blow a kiss,
When it’s time for me to go, My fingers blow a kiss!

I got this song from the children’s librarian where I did my grad school practicum.
