Welcome Song: Clap and Sing Hello (to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell)
We clap and sing hello,
We clap and sing hello,
With our friends at story time,
We clap and sing hello!
We tap and sing hello (tap knees) //
We stretch and sing hello (stretch arms up) //
We wave and sing hello (wave)

Book: A New House for Mouse by Petr Horacek
Little mouse finds an apple but it’s too big to fit in her house, so she sets off to find a bigger home. Along the way, she gets hungry and nibbles on her apple. One of my favorite books to read for this theme. Afterwards I ask the kids why the apple fit at the end and there’s usually a big kid there who “gets” it and can tell us why.
Flannel: Five Little Apples
Five little apples lying on the floor,
One rolls away and that leaves four.
Four little apples hanging on a tree,
I pick one off and that leaves three.
Three little apples and I know just what to do!
I put one in my pocket and that leaves two.
Two little apples sitting in the sun,
I’ll pick one up and that leaves one.
One little apple waiting in my lunch,
I’ll eat it up with a crunch, crunch, crunch!

Song: Have You Ever Seen a Pumpkin? (to the tune of Have You Ever Seen a Lassie?)
Have you ever seen a pumpkin, a pumpkin, a pumpkin,
Have you ever seen a pumpkin that grows on a vine? (raise hands over head)
A round one, (circle arms over head)
A tall one, (raise arms over head)
A fat one, (arms out at sides)
A small one, (pinch fingers together)
Have you ever seen a pumpkin that grows on a vine? (raise arms over head)

Book: Apples and Pumpkins by Anne Rockwell; pictures by Lizzy Rockwell
A little girl visits a farm with her family. This book is great for the kids here because we are SURROUNDED by farms that do all sorts of fall and Halloween festivals so most of them have been apple or pumpkin picking.
Song: Pumpkin, Pumpkin (to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star)
Pumpkin, pumpkin on the ground, (touch the ground)
How’d you get so big and round? (make a big circle overhead)
Once you were a seed so small, (pinch fingers together)
Now you are a great, big ball! (hands out at sides)
Pumpkin, pumpkin on the ground, (touch the ground)
How’d you get so big and round? (make a big circle overhead)

Book: The Busy Little Squirrel by Nancy Tafuri
A little squirrel can’t play, he’s too busy gathering food for the winter. This book usually takes a little explaining at the end, but I still love sharing it with the kids.
