Welcome Song: Hands Go Up and Hands Go Down
(to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star)
Hands go up and hands go down
I can turn around and round
I can hop upon two shoes
I can listen so can you
I can sit, I’ll show you how
Story time is starting now
Song: Did You Ever See a Fishy? (to the tune of Did You Ever See a Lassie?)
Did you ever see a fishy, a fishy, a fishy
Did you ever see a fishy, swim this way and that?
Swim this way and that way, and that way and this way?
Did you ever see a fishy, swim this way and that?
Book: Fidgety Fish by Ruth Galloway
Flannel: Five Little Fishes
Five little fish swimming by the shore
One got caught then there were four
Four little fish swimming in the sea
One got caught then there were three
Three little fish swimming in the blue
One got caught then there were two
Two little fish swimming in the sun
One got caught then there was one
One little fish swimming straight for home
Decided he would never roam
I don’t know how flannels work for you guys but I feel like my kids are only vaguely interested in them. They much prefer songs and wiggle rhymes. But I keep trying …
Wiggle Rhyme (to the tune of Jingle Bells)
Clap your hands, stomp your feet
Wiggle all around
Throw your hands up in the air and now let’s touch the ground
Touch your head, touch your hips, give yourself a hug
Now sit down upon the floor
But watch out for the bugs!!
Song: Bubble Bubble Pop
One little red fish swimming in the ocean
Swimming in the ocean, swimming in the ocean
One little red fish swimming in the ocean
Bubble, bubble, bubble, bubble, POP
(Two little orange fish // three little blue fish // all of the fishies)
I use the felt board for this song as well to show the kids the color and number of fish before each verse. I think it’s always a hit because they like to “pop” their hands at the end!
Book: Hooray for Fish by Lucy Cousins
One of my absolute favorite story time books. Period. Big, colorful pictures. Simple theme and super fun to read. Even my 4 1/2 month old seemed to love this book when I read it to him. I could be projecting but I choose to believe.
Flannel/Song: Old McDonald Had a Farm
(Cow // Pig // Duck // Sheep //)
Egg Shakers: Shake It!
Book: Fish Wish by Bob Barner
Song: B-I-N-G-O
Since my group is younger (2s and 3s) we only did B-I-N. I don’t think I’ll do this one again. I don’t think the concept was realized. Live and learn! (I totally did it because it makes my son belly laugh but apparently he’s more advanced than I realized …)
Song: Waves in the Sea (to the tune of Wheels on the Bus)
The waves on the sea go up and down,
[Raise and lower arms.]
Up and down, up and down,
The waves on the sea go up and down
All day long.
(The shark in the sea goes snap snap snap [Clap your hands] //
The fish in the sea go swish swish swish [Swish hands back and forth] //
The boats in the sea go toot toot toot [Make blowing horn motion]
Goodbye Song: We Wave Goodbye Like This (to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell)
We wave goodbye like this.
We wave goodbye like this.
We clap our hands for all our friends.
We wave goodbye like this.
